• MINUTES OF COMMITTEE MEETING ON 29 January2020
    Present: Elaine Mitchell-Wilson, Andrew Wilson, Valerie Pellatt, Bruce Clark, Irene Clark, Irene Higgenbotham,

    1.Welcome, introductions and apologies
    Apologies received from Beth Elliot, Deborah Tomlinson
    2. Minutes of the previous meeting (11/12/19)
    Their adoption was proposed by Irene Clark and seconded by Irene Higgenbotham.
    Comment was received that Beth had made apologies for the last meeting.
    Matters arising
    3. Absolutely French
    3.1 Primary School
    Situation on going to create link between the primary schools in Haddington and Aubigny.
    Action: Elaine to keep contact with teacher and heads on both sides.
    3.2 Blooming Haddington
    Sponsor list now available.
    £460 are left in the mortification funds and further irises and lavender will be purchased for Lady Kitty’s
    garden and Hardgate. An alternative location was agreed in the square next to the old train station, this was
    potentially a better place to grow irises with more sunshine.
    Council confirmed that mortification funds will need to be expended by end of March 2020.
    Action: Elaine to contact Louise Begbie ( Blooming Haddington) to arrange a meeting to discuss
    development of the garden project. Douglas to accompany Elaine to future meetings.
    3.3 Events and Fund Raising
    Quiz night
    Bob Mitchell available 2

    Friday of March or April. Decision was taken to organise for 13/03
    Subgroup committee to discuss organisation.

    Post meeting note – Assembly Suite booked at Haddington Town House for Friday 13 March
    Margaret agreed to complete & submit Risk Assessment. (Elaine to forward last year’s
    completed RA to Margaret)
    Application form for occasional alcohol licence submitted 30 Jan.
    Sub group to meet at Gilles’ 13/02 @ 19.30
  • 6 nations
    Irene H reported on discussions with Rugby Club. Event organised on 08/03 with a French lunch at 1pm
    followed by the match at 3pm. Social event costing £15 per persons on the day, first come first served
    basis.
    All welcomed and contact Irene H for attendance.
    Conversation café
    Debbie issued notes of potential workings. Notes to be circulated and comment back to Debbie
    International women’s day
    The event will take place from 5
    th
    to 8
    th
    of March. Elaine will circulate program. Elaine distributed to Aubigny
    with Martine Destinave (ATA secretary) possible attendance.
    Booking is necessary and attendance to be requested through Elaine.
    Action :
    Elaine to issue program.
    Haddstock
    New contact through Elaine. Organisers would like to have pop up bar from Waterside Bistro, stall from the
    Cheese Lady, and HTA organising pétanque. All in Lady Kitty’s garden on Sunday 31 May midday onwards
    Agreed that HTA will support
    Haddstock also requested if musician (French or Scottish folk) could be in attendance.

    Jan to consider Post meeting note: Jan has organised Gullane Community Ceilidh band to perform
    at the Pétanque event

    Elaine to contact U3A for possible attendance
    3.4 Haddington Twinning visit to Aubigny 2020
    This year, the fete will be organised from 10

    to 12
    th
    July. Recommendation was for a visit from 9
    th
    and returning
    14
    th
    . The meeting discussed potential dates and whether worth including the 14
    th
    of July.
    Action :
    Elaine to ask activities on Bastille day in Aubigny. Also to ask which dates would be convenient for
    ATC for the group visit ( 9-14/9-15/10-15 July)

    3.5 Scholarships 2020
    Interview being carried out next week

    4. Treasurer’s report
    Balance at 29/01/20 – £2777.00.
    6. AOB
    Elaine was contacted by Valerie Vasseur from Bourges University. A student (Lise Chatelet) will come to
    Haddington for a work placement in Oxfam (11/05 to 05/06). Accommodation is being sought and the
    committee agree to assist if possible. The student will pay a contribution to accommodation and cost of
    food.
    Grants will be open for application and will need a project. Gilles will look at availabilities and application
    forms.
    “My Haddington” brochure was distributed. It was noted that associations were represented but not HTA.

    Post meeting note: Annual grant application to be submitted to ELC
